From Ambrein to ambroxides: chemical transformation

At the heart of white ambergris chemistry is the Ambrein (C₃₀H₅₂O) molecule. During ocean aging, UV rays break the central double bond of ambrein, forming odor-active fragments.

Tricyclic Fragment (C₁₆): Transforms into Ambroxan and related compounds.

Monocyclic Fragment (C₁₃): Forms γ-Dihydroionone (tobacco/woody character).
